  • Conquests - no city desctruction?

How does one set it up so that the AI in a scenario cannot destroy cities? I ask because I've been tinkering with the WWII scenario in Conquests and now the Japanese seem to just obliterate cities.

This affects the Napoleonic scenario as well. I suppose it will affect any scenario where settler units are not available. Only way I have ever heard of was to give each city a wonder. the AI doesn't like to destroy wonders apparently. I have no idea if it works or not.

Grim reality is that you just have to grin and bear it. The AI will raze cities almost without reason. Only logical reason I have seen is where a city is seperated by one space from another. The AI will always raze one of the two cities. The WW2 example is Hong Kong and Canton. Japan tends to raze Hong Kong and leave a single unit on top of the Victory Point Location.

IIRC one way to reduce AI razing (though not eliminate, as jatf says there are other reasons) is to increase the optimal city number. The higher that is, the more cities the AI will be okay with keeping. That also changes the game's # of cities corruption mechanic though (hence the AI determining its optimal city # by it)

I'll give that a try. Thank you.

But there has to be a way to stop city razing. The AI can't raze cities in certain mods after all.

The best way is to kill them.
