game crashes during play -repeats on restart

My CIV 3 game worked fine when I last had it installed last year.
I had to remove it for space and now i have reinstalled it.
When I get to certain points , different years of different games, it crashes to desktop (xp home, all above suggested requirements)
I have attempted 12 different games over the past 3 months. On each game, I immediatly restarted the game from last saved point and noticed the game crashed at exact same time as last one, BUT each full game crashed at different years!

Any advice?

I had lots of problems like that with C3C until I replaced my video card.

Would I need to replace the whole card or just the device driver?

For me it was my card. I think I had an ATI 9800 and I had already had problems with it and they replaced it and I still had issues.

I got a cheaper card and no issues. I still use the same machine, but have yet another card as Civ4 had issues with it. I now use GeforceX something and no problems with any games.

I had spent a lot of time with the support people running all sorts of test. I doubt that would happen now.
