Using/Editing downloaded scenarios

I'm having trouble opening downloaded scenarios and maps in the game and in the Editor.. when I try to open the open the files with the editor an error message tells me that it's "not a valid Civ3 scenario file", and when I try to open it in the game I'm told it can't, and that the file may be corrupt. This has happened for all 3 of the scenarios I've downloaded, so I must be doing something wrong. I'm using just plain Civ3, without conquests, if that makes a difference.. but the files are all .bic, same as the preinstalled Earth ones, so I don't know whats going on.

Each version has its own types. So C3 uses BIC, PTW is BIX, C3C is BIQ. So only those can be loaded in a given editor or version.

Also you can run into patch level issue, so be sure you are using the last patch for the version you have.
