Can't Upgrade

In a recent game I could not upgrade Horseman to Knight. Had requisitie requirements (horses and Chilvary), but the upgrade icon would not appear. Yes I was in a barracks city. I suspect that I didn't have sufficient cash to upgrade. Would this cause the upgrade option to not appear?

I think iron is need for knights,too. Check it.

Yes not having enough gold would stop you from upgrading. In a mass upgrade you get a msg about insuffient funds. Not sure if that is C3C only or not.

Don't forget you must also have movement left for a unit to upgrade.
