Well I've never seen Kelly's Heroes. It is amazing what image of the Germans American movies implant in your brains

At least in this movie it's shown that even behind a hardcore nazi german there is a normal greedy human willing to rob a bank
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Create & use workers efficiently, esp for adding food, aware of the despotic penalty. Place your cities until you're out of room. If you're a military civ, build barracks any city that produces at least 30% of all shield production, if not, then only if a city produces 60%+. Life is cheap early in the game. Attack to wound an opponent if he's in despotism, he'll poprush to make himelf vulnerable after the SECOND war. Negotiate a peace treaty, catch up on culture, spend the first 8 or so turns on barracks and granaries (if he's real weak and you're nonmilitary, focus on granaries as after you annihilate hime, you want longterm strentgh for your next opponent.

Remember, life is cheap in the begining, attack early.
