  • strategic resources (coal, oil, alu)

trying to play civ3 (vanilla) at monarch level standard map with 8 nations being the english.
wonder wether strategic sources are less often be found with the increased difficulty level?
(or is it just a quite subjective impression?).
missing resources like coal, oil, rubber force to negotiate with neibourghs giving away often enough a very important research lead - and that for 20 rounds only.
how should i best handle that nightmare???
    thanks for tips.

AFAIK the number of resources does not depend on the difficulty level. How big is your map and how many cities do you have?

Resources are mainly a function of the map size. the level is not a factor.

You either have to trade for any missing or take them. If you can trade and then have the use for 20 turns, you have to build whatever needs it in that time frame and then go annex that land.

I just have a no iron and did not aquire it until the early Industrial Age. It took that long to get the land as it was far away. No trades for it either. I hung on during some wars with only horses and archers/spears.

Then got muskets and finally calvs and then could get the land.
