Is there a way to load Civ3 w/o a CD?

I have been playing Civ3 for about three years and havesuddenly and most unpleasantly discovered that my scratched CD will no longer load the game. It seems impossible to reach Firaxis, so does anybody know if there is a no-cd crack somewhere on the internet? I have heard tell of such things, but can't seem to find one. (And no, I am not trying to pirate the game - you can quiz me on it if you don't believe me )

Who exactly lives in the United Nations? If you are a hobo and you sleep in front of the U.N. building, does that count?

I'm worried about that happening to me.
How bad was the CD scratched?
I'd just buy a new one.
