I was just wondering whether it would be remotely possible (or legal) for a talented programmer and modder to try to overcome some of the major hardcoded limits currently appearing in Civ 3:
# Increase the maximum mapsize of 256x256 (in Vanilla Civ 3) and 364x364 (in the expansion packs)
# Increase the circa 500 city limitation
# Increase the maximum number of civs in a game
Now that CIV is finally out, it would presently seem to support much smaller mapsizes than Civ 3 .... unless one owns Deep Blue (or an equivalent supercomputer). The memory leak and intense graphics and memory demands of CIV have been discussed (and lamented) in great depth in the dedicated forum.
Therefore it would seem (despite some of the new and exciting gameplay features introduced in CIV) that Civ 3 might well have to remain the choice of many players for the foreseeable future.
Consequently, it would be great to be able to do something to yet further increase the epic nature of Civ 3.
