I finished this game with a domination in 1295 A.D.
Missed the GL, but it did not make a lot of difference. Sistine Chapel about 650 A.D. Since I had a big tech lead I didn't do the TOE-Electronics jump but rather took Replaceable parts for fast RR building and Industry so that I could get the wonder with a SGL I had picked up.
I had planned on doing a Diplo win and was scrupulous with treaties and gifts. However, the AI just started attacking me, probably because my lead was huge and I wasn't sharing techs (heh). Since they started it, I finished it. I went backwards to pick up Military Tradition once I decided to do this and just rolled up the opposition. I actually dallied a little while I reconsidered a diplo win but in the end went for speed.
1295 is as early as I have ever won a game.
The start was not only amazing for the cattle but for the high density of hills mixed in around a superabundance of rivers.
Part of my start success was in stealing iron with from the Zulu with a tight city placement and also fur by the same means. Iron, horses, happy populace and off to the races. Fun start!!
You know sometimes you can try to be nice but people just take advantage of you. Then you need to smash them with an iron fist!
Glad you enjoyed it.

Sorry. I know I should have gotten screenies and such but I just got rolling and couldn't stop.
At the start, for Athens, I irrigated the two closest cows and mined the two shield squares... but I needed one more shield for the 4t settler pump, so I mined the next cow to the SE (3-6?). I put Sparta up and to the left on the other side of the hills where it could use the wheat and the cows. I made that my main production site.
After a bit of resource and luxury grabbing with settlers supported by warriors from Sparta, I put a town on the coast to the SE where it could use that last cow over there and it became a 3t worker pump. Then I just spammed towns and workers all over the map.
I am not averse to gerrymandering my settlements in order to get resources and such... I figure I can do that and bulk up my culture and start turning their towns. I did that to the Zulu, the Russians and the Aztecs for a while.
I got RoPs with everybody very early on and worked at keeping them happy. When the one with the Russians was up I did not renew it and then attacked them and removed them from the game. Did I mention that, since I missed GL, I took SoZ instead? That helps. I stockpiled about 10 AC for the Russian campaign.
As the Russians disappeared, the Maya declared war and butchered some workers. So I had to run AC and Knights up there to take a town away and get peace.
I had popped my GA with the last Russian town up the coast and built my infrastructure with my relatively late GA while fending off the Maya.
The earliest I can probably play Civ again is Tuesday night. Yesterday was a family day and tonight the Pack is on. If the game is boring in the second half, maybe I'll fire up the laptop and play civ.
Thanks for the update.

The Pack was on and the game WAS pathetic in the second half. Sigh. Poor Brett. His time has passed. Time to put in the Golden Bear backup. He had a great run and was fun to watch for a time. Pretty much a Curt Warner career in the end. Too bad he does not have better receivers and doesn't know when to eat the ball.
Now he's fighting with SF and Texas for the top draft choice.
