What can you do if all the other Civs keep going to war with you? Usually happens after you hog all the luxuries or take the lead in cities.

Kill them is my normal plan. If you have all the lux, they are not going to like you, so you have to either make some deals or take someone down.

Some things never change.

That said, after you "hog all the luxuries or take the lead in cities" you should be on your way to a win.

By the time I have all the lux, I take a long walk and start a new game.

If you have hogged all the luxuries, you can afford to dish some out to the smaller civs to make some friends. (The ones not likely to beat you in a space race but able to provide assistance in war). When somebody picks a fight immediately get your friends to help. If you don't drag in allies quickly the enemy civ will pay them to join his alliance.

I'm playing the Vikings and didn't know I was supposed to use diplomacy.

It seems so simple now but when your busy being a ruthless tyrant you forget the diplomacy.

One thing I have learned is other civs will eventually stab you in the back. So its better if you can eliminate them.

Not so sure I would call stabbing in the back. I mean players will eventually have things the AI needs and not trade it or give it.

Events lead to unpleasant relations and next thing you know they attack. This not unreasonable behavor.

It is likely that sooner or later some other civ will declare war for some reason. That civ will then seek allies to join their war against you. I find that otherwise most civs will not "stab you in the back" if you pay some attention to maintaining diplomatic relations.

When someone does declare war on you get allies immediately rather than letting your enemy bribe them to join his side. Dogpile your enemy rather than allowing him to arrange a dogpile on you.

Sometimes I have a nearby civ which is more useful to me alive then dead. If they are no real threat to me, have no resources which I must have, are behind me in tech with no real chance of passing me, advanced enough to make a useful contribution in a war against a common enemy, if I took their cities all I would get are a heap of hopelessly corrupt one shield cities. Why not make friends with them? Throw them a few bones. If you have a surplus luxury or resource you can't sell for a good price then why not let you friend have it, cheap or free? Why not give them a tech sometimes, make friends and stops your friend falling too far behind.

There is no need to kill everyone unless conquest is the only victory setting. Even if you do want to conquer all, some civs can be left until later.

Thanks for your reply. You sound like an expert? Gamer?. What do you do when the domestic advisor keep driving you crazy with " Your highness Oslo is growing slowly"? Or not growing.?
This game is the best or worst investment I ever made. I have many hours of play and no sign of quit yet.

I never even notice those things. Turn off all the governors and manage all towns myself.

I may want Oslo to grow slow, if not I will take action. I use F1 screen to see how towns are going as well as the visuals from the map (color of size) for growth or lack of it.
