  • New Civ3 Conquest: Age of Piracy

Civ3 is not dead! The Age of Piracy Conquest has just been released at Address Removed by ACS Administration

Description from website: Run up the jolly roger and set sail for a life of infamy! You are about to enter the Golden Age of Piracy. A king's ransom awaits you on the high seas, if you're bold enough to claim it! Age of Piracy 3.0, written by Shay Yates Roberts, is unlike any mod pack you have experienced. It contains 74 new units, 46 new technologies, 26 new city improvements and 13 new wonders. It can be played solo or multiplayer, on land or at sea. Choose from eight civilizations to play, including two ruthless pirate clans. All civs have distinct personalities, special abilities, and unique units.

I'm sorry and don't take this as rude, but do you really expect people to pay 10$ for these scenarios? There are hundreds if not thousands of scenarios/modpacks out there, and quite a few look better then what you're showing. Especially since yours just seem to be theme mods with edited units/buildings/wonders. Your one claim to fame seems to be the AI using Army thing, though if I had to guess i'd say its the idea that was tossed around way back when.

The idea to make units show multiple men to better represent a division/battallion/whatever instead of just the one man unit regular Civ3 does. This isn't quite making the AI use armies, its just giving the AI a unit that looks like an army. It hasn't been done by others mainly because its too limited. You'd have to make new units for each type of army. Thats probably why you don't have very many of the "armies" in your scenarios.

As for your scenarios, i'm not saying they're bad. Its just i'll never play them since i'm not going to pay for something that should be free. Good luck with the buisness. I should warn you though, most people who visit here or other civilization sites already have access to tons of scenarios/mods that people aren't charging for.

Hey Chaotik, usually I'd agree, but I played Age of Piracy back in the civ2 dayz and it was great, so I checked this one out. Have you played it yet? You should. Never seen the deepwater ports before. One of the best modpacks I've played. I've only done two of the five scenarioes in AOP but they're nice. Looking forward to the others. Haven't played the Age of Shoguns yet, there's three scenarios there. Did you play the demo? Tell me if you like it otherwise I will probably skip on the samerai stuff. Much more here by the way than just scenarios, lots of strategy guides and tips and stuff. Worth checking out. AOP has three different armies. I don't know about the Shoguns yet. These games are different, for real. Oh, and I'm getting Age of Empires from the reviews I read in there. Maybe even Sid Myers Pirates, love pirate stuff.

I have been playing Age of Piracy for over a week now. I keep the member's area up in my browser to use as a reference while I'm playing. I like not having to look at ads or those annoying 15 second delay screens. But is membership really worth $9.99 for a year? Do the math. I just spent $9.75 to see Doom, and received a very questionable amount of entertainment during that 1.5 hour period (wait for the dvd). But I have been playing Age of Piracy for over 20 hours and I still haven't played all the civs in just the first of the five scenarios. I would pay $9.99 a year just to skip the ads, so it's gravy that the game is outstanding and will easily keep me busy the rest of the year. I know that some people don't have ten bucks, and some people don't mind the ads, but I do. And I like being able to ask questions and get them answered. I wanted to know more about the Age of Emperors modpack that is coming soon. I have studied ancient roman culture and the pic of the roman army intrigued me. They sent me the email address of the gentleman who is making the game and he answered my questions right away. There are going to be four main cultures (Rome, Carthage, Persia, Macedonia) and four completely new army units. I asked him about things like liburnas and collegias and they are already in there! This is very exciting for historical scenario geeks like me. I know Civ 4 is here and apparently it's fantastic, but my video card doesn't support the 3d lighting. So until I upgrade my system, I'm going to play Civ 3, and from what I can see it still has plenty of entertainment value.

I'm sure its all coincidence ChrisiusMaximus. I mean the odds are good that two Civ3 players who frequent his site and love his mods and have apparently lurked here a long while all of a sudden come out of hiding, right...

Anyway, to answer your questions Sha-,er Entropeon I haven't played it. Theres no point in playing a demo of a civ mod, especially when it doesn't offer anything signifigantly different from other mods available for free. The deepwater ports are just another resource, easily added into the game. I've already said what I think the armies are. Oh, and what reviews? I looked all over the site and only found the description of the mods, no reviews.

And the question really isn't is it worth the cost, most people can spare 10$. Its is it worth it compared to other mods? These ones without unit animation or new features, how do they compare to mods out there with fully animated new units, new concepts, even new music? They don't seem to really. As for the culture groups, they're allready ingame and have been used before. Renaming city improvements isn't anything new either.

In short, i'd save your 10$, add another 20-40$ to it and go out and buy a cheap hardware T&L video card and play Civ4 instead.

Entropeon and doctrzaius are DL's and have been banned

There is no evidence to link them to the creator of the thread is they created from a server IP...

The (by accident confirmed) related Directory entries have been deleted though. Commercial mods are not supported by Apolyton.

                mod packs on Civmods.com

Update: I told them about some of the concerns voiced here. Two of my mod packs are on this site and I don't want my name associated with any civil unrest in the Apolyton community. Guess what? They actually listened! They've decided to move toward an ad-based model. Everything on the site is now FREE so go for it!

shay, are you saying you dont run civmods.com?
that's a bit strange as only your mods appear on that site
strangely enough not a single name is mentioned in the "about us" page....

anyway, as your scenarios are now availiable at no cost, feel free to resubmit them in our Directory. also, if hosting for the full files is needed, just send me a pm
