If Civ4 is half as good as it seems now, CivIII will vanish from my harddisk as soon as my last PBEM is over, and I will do my best to speed this up. And it will never return.

I have both Civ III and Civ IV on my desktop, my travel laptop will remain a Civ III/Conquests machine. I played Civ IV until my eyeballs rolled as soon as I got it!
I like Civ IV, but for comparison right now I am playing a Civ III game, and you know what? Hate to have to say it, but Civ III is still IMHO just as much fun, and maybe a lot more polished. Civ IV is just out, maybe rushed out the door a bit by the publisher, and a few patches can only improve it. Then too ...
There are things I don't really think are advances in Civ IV. I like a warrior or worker or chariot or whatever being just one unit, not two or three characters on the screen. The Civilopedia in Civ IV needs some work in the opinion of many. Similarly, I find the City Screen to be a great leap backwards in intelligibility and ease of use. Also, Civ IV has no advisors popping up with interesting though often useless observations; I miss the advisors.
Civ IV has no palace for me, with improvements to cheer me along. Presumably I am staying in inns or sleeping in ditches at the side of the road? I haven't seen an I love the king day either. Ungrateful sods!
Civ IV is great, the superb new music, the narration by Leonard Nimoy, the wonder videos, mouseover terrain info, waterwheels and windmills, all of this is excellent. But as a game per se, SP, it is an incremental improvement, not a quantum jump. Civ III is still very much alive and well.

IMHO Civ IV is better than Civ III in any way. By Civ III I never got the "just one more turn" feeling, while with Civ IV I have a hard time finding time to eat because I'm playing the game all the time

"So far wilebill2 is the only person I've heard of who likes Civ3 better than Civ4 " -- no, that is not quite what I said. From a gameplay standpoint Civ4 is an incremental improvement, not a quantum leap forward is what I said.
Clearly, Civ4 is excellent, Gamespot gave it 94% in their review and other pro reviews have been consistent with that rating. The video review on Gamespot is worth watching and I think the streaming video version is free.

My copy of cIV is promised by Amazon by Nov 1. The day before is Halloween, so I probably wouldn't play then anyway.
I would prefer to have cIV right now, so instead, I'm playing my last civ3...doubtful I will be firing it up much after receiving cIV :sniff: :sniff:Haven't been here for ages....
