I see you did not get the GL. That is a very very important wonder on Sid, a must in my book.

You should (IMO) use tighter spacing at Sid. This allows you to cover better. They do not do things any smarter, but they do not have to as they have a lot more. So they can set a bunch of ships with units.

Cats in decent numbers can damage some ships and often get them to turn around. Buying time is what the first half of the game is all about.

Slowing down their research is key. One way to do that is to make early contacts and refuse demands and stay in war until they pay you off.

This mean Monarchy after Despotism. Anyway you do not have nearly enough cities on that land. Having other land masses so close will also be a problem.

Do not choose America or any expansion civ and do not have goody huts. Do chose a civ that starts with alphabet. Can you say Iroq.

If you want to play with contients or close island I would pick Mayans. You will need that strong early UU and fast growth. You will be kicking off a very early Golden Age. Either that or die.

      they trounced me in wonders

france built the majority of them before the year AD rolled around

I had research down to 20% because of lack of gold and the need to keep units flowig

      Thanks for the tips

This was my first attempt at Sid

      I will return

Yeah they will be announcing wonder completion for tech you do not even have. You just have to adjust to deal with it.

You can play with a few less than normal amount of civs to make contacts take longer. That way you could hand pick the civs you play against and omit the stronger ones. That means no commercial civs for sure.

I've had as much as 16 AI units landed at one time on a tile in the same turn and it was way back in Emperor....

You can see any number, I am more concerned about when and where they land than how many.

4-6 Knights landing in a not well defended town at Deiy or Sid and I only a few have AA units sucks.

16 Cavs landing in an Always War at Emperor and I have rails up, is not likely to be a problem.

I have had many rough times on a fairly large island at Sid that I could not fill fast enough. One or two civs tart showing up with a steady stream of ships and escorts and I am in trouble.

So I agree that the ai is not so great at invading and naval use, but it does not have to be when it is a high level AI or can muster up big numbers.

              Mayans????????

I prefer archers to their UU, although agro & industrial are the best traits, and work well together(since cities grow faster, you need to work tiles more.

Gimme Iroq or Summarian (I revel in getting lots of units that are half priced spearmen, after all I have cities to defend.)
