  • uses of stealth technology?

In my current game I'm doing a large modern age war, and I've been wondering, is this tech worth it?
So far, I got around 60 normal bombers (to support 120+ MA), and they are quite useful, so maybe it would be a good idea to get stealth to make them even better?

In the civilopedia, it doesn't say that bombers can upgrade to stealth bombers. Does that mean they cannot?
Also, it states an exorbitantly high price of 240 for stealth bombers - is that true?

Since my bombers currently aren't in danger of being shot down, the stealth itself isn't that important to me, only the higher bombard strength and range.
What do you think, is it worth researching the tech, given those circumstances? Or, when would it be worth it?

    Re: uses of stealth technology?

The Stealth Bombers are useful if the enemy has Fighters (Jet Fighters) and/or FLAKs (SAMs). If he is defenseless, regular Bombers are almost as good. The other (less important) advantages are the higher bombard value and range, both of which can be neglected by large numbers of cheaper planes.

I think Bombers do not upgrade to Stealth, sorry.
    Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

The range is the only thing that may be of value to you in that case. Once they have AA, then you will get some use of the better survuvial.

60 bombers have to be a real pain to use.

Is it really that hard for normal bombers?
I mean, researching a quite expensive tech, and paying 240 shields per unit - is it worth the investment?
I'm not often at that stage in the game and still fighting for victory, so I never faced that decision before...

The hard part is moving all those Bombers. Must be pretty tedious.

Well, if you would be facing building Fighters and Bombers to get some actual bombing done against a fortified enemy (Fighters first to shoot down theirs), I would say Stealth Bombers are better (no need for offensive Fighters). But if, as you say, the AI you are attacking can not defend well, you do not really need this technology and this unit. Then again, at this stage of the game it is usually just for fun anyway.

My games effectively end in the mid-Industrial age. It's just a matter of deciding how I want to win from there.

Are there any mods out there that make the later stages more interesting?

Not any epic ones for Civ III.

But there is the WW II : Pacific Conquest.

And there is a WW I scenerio and a WW II : Europe scenerio.

I suppose the "short" mode of Civ IV has the best shot at making the late stage competive.

Once upon a time, Vel and alva (or maybe asleepatthewheel) developed a kick-ass modern era warfare scenario...
The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

that would have been me, T. Search for Alamo, or MT III (mini tournament III) if you want to find it.

A pity it wasn't played more, I think only about 4 or 5 people actually finished it. Aeson first, of course But it was just bad timing, it was at the very start of the AU games, and these were a bit more accessible to all players.

Oh, and one of the goals of the Alamo game, was to use the F-15's decently. How many people have ever started a GA with the American special unit, while defending against 3 superior civs?

Yup, that's the final starting thread. There was another one for the AAR, and one or even two while still designing and testing it, but if you just want the instructions and the save you need that link. Thanks!

How many people have even built an F-15, not me.
