  • What files to use for all those mods?

    Hi,

I'm pretty new to the 'Civ-like' games. I'm just now playing my first game of Call to Power II, but I'm definitely hooked (even without any mod installed). A few days ago, I found this site, and managed to download my first ever mod. Now in the CtPII part of this forum, there's a very usefull entry for newbies like me, so I was able to download the necessary files to try out the top three mods, and it was explained in what order to install those files. There's a lot more files available for CivIII, and I'm unsure as how to proceed...

Can anyone post a'quick install guide' for CivIII and the mods? There are several modswappers available, which one is the most widely used? Are there any other files necessary before installing mods (for CtPII, I also had to install Apolyton Tile File for instance).
Can you install the visual eye candy files just like that (in which case they will have an effect on all versions of the game, the standard version and the installed mods), or are those files mods in themselves... And finally of course, can one make a top three of available mods? I mean really, ONE game played to completion takes a long time, I can't possibly try out all those mods.

Hope I'm not too much out of order asking this, there are so many goodies on this site, it's easy to get lost. I haven't even received my copy of CivIII yet, but judging by the quality of Call to Power II, this kind of gameplay is just the thing I have been looking for.

    Thanks in advance.

For the most part, you can't install multiple mods into a game with Civ III. You have to play them one at a time, which means that it doesn't matter what order you have them in. The exception to this is with graphics. You can copy over a terrain graphic etc. that can be used by any mod.

And no you don't have to install any other files, just the mod itself.

      Thanks

Thanks for the info! So I don't even have to bother with all those modswappers!

I'll be busy with CtPII for quite some time, but I'm already looking forward to my first CivIII game.

Wait until you make your own mod! Thats the best yet. Problem for me is that I mod so much it cuts into playing time!

But seriously, my own world (mod) has ethnically correct units instead of the vanilla spear and sword for each civ. Its neat to see Sampans pass by galleys and African, Arab, Europea and Asian units square off. adds lots of flavor to the experience.
