  • Adding resources for Civ 3: PTW

Could some kind soul please tell me what to do to add resources to Civ 3: PTW scenarios?

I'm even willing to chat via msn messenger if need be.

I just made a miserable attempt at adding a resource and it made EVERY resource show up as a blank, black box.

I'm making a scenario that is set back in time a bit, and I have no use for some resources such as Uranium and I would like to add in a few resources to take their place. So, perhaps you can understand my view?

Any and all help/suggestions/comments is appreciated!

    Thank you all.

You need to change the file called "Resources"; you can download it right here in Apolyton. Then rename some resources by the icon that is showed, and for add new ones (even with repeated icon, but it is difficult to reognize each resource) you must modify the text files PediaIcons and civilopedia.

I think I see what you are sayng.

For example, if I paste a tobacco icon over the Uranium icon. Then I rename Uranium to Tobacco.

THEN add the icons to the art folder and edit the Civilopedia and Pedia icons files then it will work?

That may be what I was doing wrong! I HAD copy-pasted a tobacco image over the uranium and renamed it and everything but I had NOT added anything to the art folder besides for copying the Resources file there and I had done NOTHING to the text files.

Do you think that's what I did wrong?

Thanks for the help so far Elda King.

No that wasn't the problem. If you're getting a black box it means that the resources.pcx graphic file is no longer a 256 colour pcx file. It's probably jpeg, though I can't be positive about that. Perhaps your graphics program isn't handling it properly, or you're not saving it right.

And you don't have to copy over anything else, you can simply add your resources below the existing ones. No other entries are required, though the Civilopedia will use the graphic that's contained on the resources.pcx file. If you want something that looks better, you have to create a new pcx image, then add the path for that resource in PediaIcons, but it's not necessary to have it appear in the game itself.
