  • re-install troubles

I hope someone here can help me. I emailed tech support from the Atari site weeks ago. They never got back to me.

I cannot reinstall civ 3. I had civ gold and conquests installed and running for months. Then a virus trashed my windows install in December. I eliminated the virus, but had to install windows in a new directory. Now, every time I try to restore civ, the install shield appears with its options: Repair, Modify, Remove. But civ3 is not on my pc in any form. No matter which option I select, the computer says it has performed successfully, without any effect. I've downloaded numerous mods and tools, but only ever used store-bought install discs for civ games, not cracked versions. Civ3 is not in Add/remove programs.

    Things I've tried:
    Deleted the old windows directory.
Delete the old civ directory. (Moved saves and edits)
    Add/Remove Programs, TweakUI control panels.
    3rd party reg repair programs.
Registry searchs for all the copyrighted names.
Manual search of uninstall reg keys.

I'm running Windows 98 (not SE).
    I'm installing from CD.
I've had civ running for months before.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. AC is great, and civ2 still holds some appeal; but, I miss civ3 and civ4 isn't out yet. Thanks for your time.

In your program files forlder there is a hidden folder named something like install shild installation information. It caontains several folders with obscyre names. Find the one that corresponds to your civ installatin by checking the setup.ini file in the folder, If you know when you installed it the first time it's a good thing to check the dates of the folders.

    Delete that folder.

You may also just rename the install shiled folder witle installing, and the move back all folders from it to the new folder created on install, not replacing the folder created.
