  • How do increase the resource appearance ratio?

    Hey all.

    I'm pretty good with software and such, but this one has me puzzled.

    I'm trying to increase the apparance ratio of resouces on all my new games.

    The problem is that if I make the rules customizable, which is necessary to change the appearance ratio, the game gets borked.

    For example, I just played a finished a game tonight. There was not one Palace improvent, and when the game was over there was no final score, and nothing written down in the hall of fame.

    What gives?

    You can only get HoF scores from "epic" games. So if you use custom rules, no HoF.

      Okay then, how do I increase the appearance ratio on an epic game? Or can I?

      Because I think the appearance ratio that is currently implemented in C3C 1.22 sucks.

        Feel free to mod the apprenance ratios of any luxaries & resources as well. It's under apprenance ratio.

        0 = random [by default all luxaries]

        80 = aprox 1 per person. (But also affected by # of tiles that it can possibly form on)

        Luxaries will normally clump. (By design to encourage trade)

          Okay, I understand how to change the appearance ratio, but this last game had problems.

          1. There was no palace. By that I mean the P button never showed up underneath the D for diplomacy and E for espionage.

          2. There were no scientific leaders. This was a huge problem because I had a very hard time completing wonders in time even though I had a good tech lead on the AI. The AI would simply switch their wonder building to any wonder that was still available. That mean that they each civ would finish at least one wonder ever 40-50 turns. I had no way to rush a wonder.

          3. Great Leaders could not rush production. I'm not 100% sure that they were supposed to in the first place, but I believe that they should be.

          4. I never recieved my final score. At the end of the game I got all the leaders telling me things, and then I got the turn by turn playback, but after that there was no warrior swinging the mallet, and there was no final score. I guess I misused the term "hall of fame".

          5. Is cultural victory on a standard map supposed to require 100,000 culture points? I found this damn near impossible. I think I made it to 70,000 in 1930 AD.

            #1: Intended Feature of any mod (unless the game is in MP mode. [That MP still showing the Palace for mods is probably a bug they left in])

            #2: Bug that if you change default victory conditions that SGL are disabled.

            You have heard of storing shields as a Palace or another wonder and switching when that wonder becomes adviable? Right?

            #3: MGL can not rush GWs in Conquests. They can only rush Small Wonders & improvements. Also note that they can't be used on cities will "spolied shields" [forest chops / shields from disbanding units / rushing]

            #4: There is no "Hall of Fame" for any mod. As to score, if you haven't deleted the save of the previous turn, you can check it out what is was then. That will be close enough.

            #5: Yes, 100K + double 2nd place culture empire is the empire wide cultural victory on standard map. It scales based on map size. There is also a 20K in a single city cultural limit. Going for an empire wide cultural win, try playing the Babs, and getting temples, libaries, catherdrials, and universities built as early as possible. Also a large peaceful REX may be needed as well. I would recommend bypassing ToA, but instead trying to get the Great Library and if there is a suitable Colosus and/or Statue of Zeus sites them as well. In the middle ages going for Culture, Sistine's Chapel and Shakephere's are the most important. In the modern era, get the Internet as soon as possible, not only is it worth culture in the city you've built it, but the free Reserach Center on every city on the contienant will generate culture as well. You have until 2050, and going for cultural victory it's normal to complete all techs first.

              Thanks Jon.

              My main gripe is that I didn't get my score written down in the annals or whatever you call it.

              There should be some type of thing you get at the end of the game that shows your score and the scores of previous games. I accidentally called this the Hall of Fame, when it's not.

                You can actually go an edit your highscores.cv3 file to manually add-in the high scores.

                Open the file in a text editor, and edit it like this:

                Alexander 3 12951 3 3 1

                This equates to:
                Name Civ(Color) Score Difficulty VictoryType Victory/Loss

                Difficulty would be 0-5 Chieftain-Deity
                VictoryType: Domination(0), Conquest(1), Cultural(2), Diplomatic(3), Spacerace(4), Retired(5), Histograph(6)
                Victory: 1
                Loss: 0

                Some Ainwood guy is so up his arse that if he ever had haemharroids (sp), he'd have to take the cream orally! What a total dick!

                  Thanks Legend,

                  How do you know what number to use for your civ?

                  I suppose I could load up PSP 9.0 and take a look at it.

                  BTW, I played as the French

                    HighScore.cv3
                    format:
                    leader name A nnnnn B C D
                    A = the civ race counting from the list shown in the hall of fame. That is 22 would be Arabs.
                    B = level counting Chief as 0.
                    C = type of vic/loss
                    VictoryType: Domination(0), Conquest(1), Cultural(2), Diplomatic(3), Spacerace(4), Retired(5), Histograph(6)
                    D = 1 means won 0 or 2 means lost

                    nnnnn is your final score.

                      if you back up the orignal conquests.biq file and overwrite it with your mod will you then be able to play your mod and still get HoF and palace as normal?

                        No, the game will recognize any changes that are made and respond accordingly. Just using the same name as the default file won't work.
