The Impi costs twice as much as an Enkidu. This is as simple as math gets, you know.

True, however with with later UUs, the shield cost per point is not as big of an issue since a) you have more cities b) those cities are larger and c) the later GA has a more dramatic effect on city output. The bottom line is you can produce a lot of units per turn.
With the Enkidu, you can have all defenders you will ever need even before the Ancient Age. How is that for improving your poduction for the rest of the game?
    Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

I've never played Sumeria. This thread has also intrigued me to try.
      Haven't been here for ages....

Yes, Impi are a very good unit. I couldn't get the AI to attack it though, so I have to attack with it myself when I wanted my GA.

Well, the reason the AI wouldn't attack my Impi is that I had one or two stacked with a few horsemen in my first two wars. After that I didn't use them in the 3rd or 4th war. (Very short affairs.) I brought one with me on my 5th war just to get my GA.

When the 6th war came along I had Knights.

The 7th war mostly used obsolete Horses, but was a short affair.

My 8th and 9th wars were large stack(s) of Knights.

Impi are also great Barbarbian fighters, at least on Monarch level.

Still I'm now intrigued with the Enkidu Warrior plus the Sumerian's traits are good so I think I'll give them a shot.

Actually, the bigest caution I have on playing the Sumerians is that if your planning on going Republic, don't go overboard with Enkidus. Their shield cost makes it easy to do so.

Also note that as Sumeria, you have to build each and every Swordmen the hard way. (No upgrade to Swords) So they will work better for someone who prefers Horsemen rushing to Swords rushing.

Perfect for peaceful games, where the name of the game is: no rushing. Plus, the cheap Spears are a great anti-barbarian shield.

Sumeria was a top pick for the Iron Civer final (2nd overall). Can't tell for sure what's happening so far, but the Endiku seem to be stirring up plenty of trouble. Hopefully alexman will treat us to an AAR of this one...

Costs only 5 shields per defenive point.
By comparison, the Greek Hoplite costs 6 1/3 shields per defensive point.
Normal spearmen costs 10 shields per defensive point.

Also the Sumerians are Agricultural & Scientific, which is a very good traight combo in the hands of a human.

The Dutch also have a great traight combo with Agriculture & Seafaring.
The Dutch, and Sumerians...two civs I have played a lot.
Makes it a lot easier with cheap UU's and Ag trait. My playstyle has been too much builder and not enough killer. Kind of suits the Dutch and Sumerians I guess.
