  • Question about deplomacy

I would like to edit the game a little. I often find it impossible to make good relations with a nation that I've gone to war with in the past. No matter how much time passes and how much gold I give them they still hate me. I wanted to change this so that I might make good relations with a foreign country. Afterall that is the most realistic seeing as Great Britian is one of the U.S.'s closest allies. So my main question is is does anyone know why I can not build good relations and if so how I can fix it. Thank you.

It probably depends on how "trustworthy" you are (though I'm not entirely sure).

I do know that if you make a gpt deal with someone (or a peace treaty or any other type of deal that lasts 20 turns), and then you break it, you will be considered untrustworthy for the entire game and won't be able to make that type of deal again.

Breaking any of the 20 turn deals harms your reputation. So does razing cities (autorazing included). Don't do it, and you can bring relations back to normal after a war. However, this doesn't happen over night - it needs some time.

Some AIs have a psycho mentality programmed in. If you see the Zulu, the Mongols, the Germans - prepare for war. Those 3 just can't seem to stay nice. Other civs don't seem as war-hungry all the time, but not all players would agree here.

If an AI feels it is much stronger than you (check the F3 screen), they may attack without any apparent reason. Having a moderate force at all times helps prevent this. If you want peace, be ready for war.

Yor culture plays a small role too. Not as much as your military, but it helps to have some.

On the other hand, Germans, Zulu, and Mongols are always willing to ally against someone...

Continue to supply them with targets and it won't be an issue.

And a very valid point at the same time.
