  • PTW bug when playing Babylonians...

...every turn I have to reset my city builds to Bowman as the computer keeps automatically upgrading the builds to Longbowman. Since Bowman are 2/2 and Longbowman are 4/1 I prefer Bowman guarding my cities however. A fix is needed for this to allow unique units not to be overridden with another unit.

Currently using the 1.21f patch for PTW as well (with Civ 3 version 1.07 installed before PTW was installed).

It's not a bug. Bowmen and Longbowmen are both considered offensive units, so the Governor is going to make the best one that's available. Frankly, I'm surprised that you are even able to construct Bowmen, they should have been upgraded automatically to Longbowmen, and disappeared from your build list.

You should always be able to build your UU to be able to get your GA.

But there has to be some sort of time frame. A Roman Legionary would be woefully out of place in the Industrial Era. If he's able to build a Longbowmen, his Bowman have been around for a long, long time. Certainly long enough fo him to trigger a GA if he chose to.

The problem was the game I was playing I did not have access to any iron, ever. It was my first PTW game and so I thought I would try the option to have 5 nations (the other 4 all random) and where they would be located close to similiar type nations (that they would be in the real world). Got 2 continents, with the Aztecs on one and my Babylonians, the Ottomons, the Arabs, and another (cant remember now) all on the other. Was about 1500 AD before I got access to any iron (as the closest iron to me was in the middle of the eastern part of my continent and I was stuck on the west) so all I had to choose from was longbowman, spearman, and bowman, so I wanted the best defensive unit (though I wised up, quit that game and started another - but still you should always be allowed to choose your unique unit in my opinion as I needed as much defense as possible since the opposition had better units then longbowman already cause they had iron (and were not willing to trade me any for anything reasonable in return).

          PS: What does GA mean?

I suppose Bowmen are in that grey area, obsolete but still useful, at least at that time period. Still I'm surprised that you were able to make them, with Longobowmen available.

            And GA = Golden Age.

I think they, with Conquests, did change so that units that can generat GAs never become unbuildable, at least not before you've had your GA. You might find a small behind CIV to send in them on.
