  • Labour Strike?

Hello, my name is Ronald, and I have just joined this forum in order to become better at Civ 3 Conquests and Civ 4 when it comes out.

I have noticed an odd flaw with the specialized workers on Civ 3. I attempted to bolster one of my larger cities production by using civic engineers. After seeing that they are theorecticaly suppost to give me two extra shields in exchange for the two food required to support him, I decided that my city was ripe for them.

But, unfortunately, I soon found that my city was not receiving any new shields from the addition of a civic engineer. Soon, I attempted to use him in other cities of my empire, but the same affect happened: no added shields. I am currently at stalmate with them, not being able to swap food for shields (as promised by the concept of a civic engineer) has limited the production of several cities which I placed on flood plains for the secondary purpose of using civic engineers.

Please, if it would be most convenient for you, try and use civic engineers and give me any ideas at what may be the problem for me. Thank you in advance.....

    Ron

The Civil Engineer specialists (avail with Rep. Parts) only add their shields to buildings, not units.

      Oh, interesting.

It seems logical enough, considering their purpose pertain to civic matters.

Thank you for your help Cort Haus

Also, there is some sort of GUI glitch with Civil Engineers- I believe their shields do not show up in the production field of the city screen, but are correctly calculated into the # of turns to complete figure...

Also note that unless the city is not wasting any shields, your generally better off with a Policemen than with a civil enginerer. It's the only specalist whose work gets multipled by structures.

True. The reduction in corruption often is a far better than adding 2 shields. You get gold and shields returned, and often, with large cities that are far away form the palace (or FP), you can gain more than with the CE.
