  • Air Units Movement

This is somewhat hard to articulate without a graphic. It's also possible that this has been discussed previously - but the search terms are difficult.

    Question:
When you right click a stack of your own units, you get the 'unit menu' as pictured in this post. With land or sea units, it's not difficult to see how many movement points the unit has per turn and how many are still remaining for the turn.

Why is this information not ready available on the 'right click unit menu' for air units? okay, a rhetorical question... Obviously, it's binary. Has the air unit moved or not.

A better question, is there any way to modify this - or is this not a user modable function? I just want to see whether an air unit has moved or not.

Try "Wake Transported", if you don't use the planes as Interceptors.

Andif you do... I guess splitting up the fleet might be necessary to get rid of that problem. Have a Carrier with Interceptors only, and the other(s) with planes for other duty - placed in different tiles. Then you can use the Wake Transported thing to get to the ones that haven't moved yet. Of course, this might require more escorts...
          Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

yeah, it's a bit of a bummer that the game mechanics require a change in game strategy.

I'm guessing that I'm correct in assuming that this is not one of those items our fearless modder community has tinkered with. It would seem this is part of the core programming and not modable.

If you would just RENAME those fighters on Air Superiority (e.g., "Intercept" or "AS"), you wouldn't have that problem, and you also wouldn't run out of interceptors by mistake.

I recollect that early Civ3 indicated which air units have moved with the right-click by using a binary digit. This was before they were showing the air unit strengths, I believe. Once they added the strengths, they didn't work out a clear way to leave in the moved/not moved indicator, so they dropped it.

Ahh...I didn't post that because I couldn't remember if early Civ3 had that or not. I really didn't play Civ3 much until one of those patches...I can't remember which one -- there have been so many.

That's a good suggestion regarding the renaming, but still a tedious operation to select fighters when you want them. There have been threads on this before, but I'll say it again anyway. The way the game cycles through your available units is just baffling

Looking for cIV to be an improvement.

Yes, vanilla Civ3 shows all the information for air units. E.g. Activate Veteran (4/4) Jet Fighter (8(3).4.0/1). The unit has either 0 or 1 movement point remaining out of 1 total. I don't understand why it is no longer possible to depict that.

fighters are worthless. you can' bomb anything with them. I only use them for air superiority.

let fighters are a little better, but not much.

Fighters are not worthless at bombing. Only, the purpose of the bombing mission is to kill (or at least divert) enemy fighters, saving your bombers.

Works best if stock fighter defense strengths are increased from stock.
                          I use Fighter=3, Jet Fighter=6, F-15=8.
I also increase Jet Fighter BRF to 4.0.2, F-15 bombardment to 8.

                            sounds reasonable with these

I always send the fighters in first to draw off the interceptors. Plus you never know when you get a lucky break and one of fighters blows up something important!
