  • Cannot Uninstall / Re-Install Game - Help!

I'm trying to load Civ III and Conquests on a laptop, which runs Windows 2000. A ways back I had tried to load just Civ III on this machine but had space problems and had to abandon the effort.

I've cleared space on this machine, but now when I load the Civ III cd the splash screen gives me the option to Uninstall or Re-Install. If I choose Re-Install it automatically starts the Uninstall process. If I double-click on the Set-up icon it does the same thing.

If I choose Uninstall, or let it continue with Uninstall after trying to Re-Install, it starts the uninstallation Wizard, runs for about 5 seconds (and 1% of the job, as shown on the graphic) and then tells me Uninstallation is successful. However, when I reload the CD it still seems to think the program is on my machine, cuz it gives me the Uninstall and Re-Install options again.

I tried manually deleting what Civ III files I could find, as well as doing the Add/Delete programs function through Windows, but nothing changes - the Installation program on the CD still seems to think Civ III is somewhere on my machine and will not give me a clean install option.

Can anyone tell me how to get this thing to Install correctly? Thanks for any and all help.

You'll probably will have to dig into the register and remove all CIV3 references.

        Many thanks for replying.

I've tried to searching for everything I can find in the registry with "civ" or "infogr" or "firaxis" , and then deleting what is part of Civ3, but I still don't have any joy.

Whne I'm trying to install an Error message always comes up:
error extracting support files: access is denied

Is there something in the hidden folder "Installshield Installation Information" I should remove - if so , what?

Have you tried installing it in a different folder or partition?

Problem solved. I realised that Civ3 was still showing up the "Add or Remove Programs" list and couldn't be removed from there in the normal way.

I had a look at www.theeldergeek.com for inspiration which listed which bits of registry to look at.

I found what I was looking for in

            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall

but it didn't show up in the 'easy to read' list of programs there. Instead I had to look inside each of the folders with alphanumeric names inside curly brackets until I found one with a reference to Civ3 - and then I deleted it.

            Thanks for helping
