    Conquests is a great game

I have had quite a bit of fun with the Rome demo though

sorry to have seen several Conquests pbem players leave games recently due to Total War - Rome

    as sad day indeed

I own conquests and have spent many countless hours playing it. I love the game and won't stop playing it. I have never played a conquest to date however, only the epic game.

That being said let me say that R:TW is definately the new ass kicker. It's like playing Civilization but with real time battles, and not the clickfest that you'd expect. The realtime battles involve a lot of thought, just like a good chess game!

Here is for an official NEWS update. It is 11 votes for Conquest the beleagered and 6 votes for Rome: Total War.

Of course we are honored by forthright honesty of all 'voters', namely that they are 'veterans' of Conquests (sorry I did not mention that) AND they purchased and played Rome: Total War, not just the demo. (gee, sorry I did not mention that criteria either).

And we have two threads to glean insight from that are of merit. One is posted above that goes to disenchanted R: TW players many who incidently kept making what appeared to be 'favorable' comparison to CIV3 et al. Interesting otherwise they sounded just like us. Imagine that!

And here, in our own forum, guess what, yes that 'other game' forum there is a long thread in honor of R: TW. Now, as a unbiased reporter (trust me ) I am only interested in the facts. Yes, is R: TW worth 50 bucks now?

Well, this thread above here in our beloved forums I have read twice, and was almost swayed to buy R: TW myself! I know, I know that is hard to believe. Except for one little nagging feeling, yes folks, in looking over the roster of 'traiters' posting I kept getting this nagging dirty feeling, like I looking in to a bunch of whores let loose in a forbidden cookie jar!

And I know Halloween is coming up, but geeze guys, show a little restraint here. I mean, is it really that good... ?

Well this is the question and I remain 'undecided', however I CAN smell the cookies, and you know, night cometh and sneaking about is going to get easier, especially when the PRICE lowers!

I'm not really a wargame fan, so Conquests. Then again, the Total War series is the aristocracy of historical military strategy. Anyways, you can't compare the two. You get the most fun out of Civ by other means than warmongering.

I got this game when it came out. An amazing game with many elements of civ3 in it. If both games were merged, it would be crazy.

Geeze guys, 11 to 8 now! Wow, and this is without a patch or mods available, just vanilla. Hard to believe. Anyone know when the price shall be droping?

Wouldn't this thread belong in the Other Games forum? Are we looking for an unbiased opinion on Conquest in the Civ3-Conquests forum?

Well I do not care where this thread lands. My objective, I thought was clear, I wanted fellow Conquest players of some report who additionally have purchased and played Rome: Total War and then rendered their opinion and/or vote. Why? I respect those of like interest opinion more than everyone elses.

I have no axe to grind in this and am not yet convinced to buy a game which may be over-rated but certainly as of now, over-priced. And this game is the same Publisher as CIV.

However again, I am no expert on Forum Protocol, let the wiser ones call it.

I've heard good things about Rome: Total War. Not sure if I'd buy it yet.

Comparing Rome: Total War to Civ III is apples and oranges.

That said though, I am having a lot more fun playing Rome Total War at the moment. I love watching the battle unfolding, my cavalry mowing down a unit of hoplites in phalanx from behind, the enemy's arrows glancing off the shields of my Legionnaires in their patented Testudo formation, enemy walls crumbling as my sappers dig out the ground from underneath them.

But in a nutshell, both games are suitably epic. Civ III is epic in everything outside of the actual battles, whereas the battles in Rome TW are the most epic experience of that game.

I think I'd have to vote for total war though I haven't played it yet. I just tend to like the ne the block.

Is RTW worth the money ? Yes!!!

Is it better than Conquests ? No!!!

I have both and I have put several hours into both

Its a superb game and as others have said, for me the ultimate game would a Civ game with Total war battles, this is surely something that will one day happen.

I loved MTW too and played it extensively and had great fun with it, i will probably play RTW for many more hours to come but I will always come back to Civ, the best game of all time

I loved R:TW for about 2 weeks, then got a bit burrned out. OTOH, I haven't touched C3C in a month. Waiting on patches in each case

Rome Total War is far better. They're not even in the same league.

My son just game me Rome Total War for my birthday and from what I've seen so far I'm loving it. But I'm struggling to grasp it all, as a newbie. I don't mean that critically, it's a matter of finding out what everything is all about -- same as in Conquests.

Sir Ralph: your comment "Rome is much better" makes me think you're quite familiar with it. Can you advise me which is the best forum site to hook up with to learn more about it?

                                Thanks

By the way, I agree that comparing them is comparing apples and oranges.
