To be honest, I haven't seen much about linux and Civ3.

Hope someone can help you out.

I hacked on it a bit, see http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...hreadid=106861 . Now that I tried it again, all I could get wine to do was to output this message:

*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption: 0x7787f9fc ***
wine: Unhandled exception (thread 0009), starting debugger...
Also, I was understating the lack of speed of the game in that thread. On my Athlon XP 1800+, it was pretty much unplayable. I also forgot to note that almost no animations worked.

Hm, I'm pretty sure it's just my system. OpenGL seems to be pretty badly broken here at the moment.

I haven't tried this, and probably wont, because I would think the game would be terribly slow under wine in linux. I think the newest version of wine is needed (the one that can only be bought) because you need the version of wine that has DirectX emulation also.

Being that in linux you load the OS (just like Windoze) but then you must load an OS emulater (wine) before you can run the game, it seems to me that is will HAVE to run slower with an extra layer of software between the application and the OS. And that's assuming you can get it to run correctly in the first place.

Of course the overhead caused by wine might not be as much inherent overhead that you get with windoze. Though I thought XP did cut down on that a bit.
