  • Mesopotamia scenaria: lebanese cedar?

    HIm

I'm currently playing the mesopotamia scenario. I've wiped out Babylon with my enkidu warriors (they rock) when I noticed there are yellew diamond shapes on certain tiles. The game gives an additional description of the tile as "lebanese cedar"
has this meaning or is this just nice detail but unimportant for the game?
    Oh no.... not THAT again

check the terrain stats - i think they produce more shields than normal forest.
    regards,

I'll have to check it again but I'm fairly certain terrain stats are not modified as is usual for a "bonus" tile.

        It is a production bonus.

Im pretty sure it is one extra sheild.

So lebanese cedar would be 1 fpt, 3 spt

          vice

Normal forest which is 1fpt, 2 spt

I dont know off hand if you get more than the standard ten sheilds when you chop. The last time I played the Phoenecians I didn't pay close enough attention

Note that this extra shield does no good until you leave the tile peanalty govt.

You should only get 10 shields choping it. It's a bonus +1 shield resource on top of the forest. So choping it would result in the equalvent of a grassland shield tile.

Hmm are you sure about that? I just started a Phoenician game last weekend, and I thought I had the 3rd sheild from the beginning.....

joncnunn is correct. You don't get the bonus shield until you leave original government. I know since I'm playing the Phoenicians right now. I'm in this Mesopotamia PBEM with one conmcb25 as Babylon.

Correct. Lebanese Cedar is a "bonus" Tile.
I forgot about the despotic penalty because I won before I got around to leave despotism in this scenario. In a old saved game I changed government and voila. Lebanse Cedar gives production bonus...

                  thx for the help guys.

I thought bonus squares are exempt from the goverment penalty. Or is that SMAC (but that penalty isn't related to goverrments but certain techs)

Yes, you've confused SMAC with Civ III.

Early on, playing the Phoenicans that forest should be choped to speed improvements and mined to speed wonders.

Phoenica does suffer from long ways from certain resources for wonders. The more historically correct option would be to found your own version of Carthage near an iron resource in North Africa.

You also need access to it in order to build at least one Wonder.
