  • Placing Techs on the Science Advisor Screen

Can someone give my a quick rundown on how to either map them out properly, or how to get a preview without shutting down the editor and starting up a game?

I'm getting tired of doing this "blind".

If there's a pre-existing thread on this, feel free to point it out to me, and I'll be on my way.

There is a 'mythical' program that will let you look at the science advisors without starting the game, but I couldnt find it. I just finished all four advisors as part of my mod.

I started with printscreen captures of the advisors. Then I planned out what I wanted using the XP paint program. The (X,Y) pixel locations of the upper left corners of your techs can be plugged into the editor to generate the tech locations for the advisors. The arrows are just a static graphic file but they require that you have a program that can read pcx files (PSP or photoshop work fine).
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Okay, I was afraid of that. Thanks.

The 'mythical program' is Gramphos' Civ3 Multitool. Using the mysteriously named "Tech Tree Builder", you can adjust the coordinates of a tech, save, and load the science screen in the builder. Finding the Multitool should be easy as it's incredibly useful and revolutionized civ3 modding, for me in the least.

Sorry, but that is not the tool I'm thinking of. I've had the multi-tool since Gramphos originally made it. Unless you have a version I'm not aware of, there is no tech tree builder.

EDIT: I stand corrected! Gramphos does indeed have a newer version with a 'tech tree builder' 1.09. It still wasnt the program I was looking for, however.

The 'program' you're looking for is now called, 'hard work'! However, when some 'angel' pulls something together we modders can use, PLEASE post a large sign indicating its where-abouts! Many thanks.

With that I have found saving graphics and using them in the game editor a bit more tempermental than I like.

                Your hired!! Beautiful job!

However, once again someone builds a tasteful well done tech tree replete with no 'clutter'. Gosh how disappointing. Certainly not 'down' to my standards.

It kinda flows up down and on around top and bottom.

So you're looking for a program to make the backround screen (the arrows, etc.)? I see, sorry I misunderstood. Actually I'm going through that right now too, and just finishing up my middle ages as well!
