    I have a question

Is there any point making anit-corruption buildings under communism? It says communal, thus making the buildings woul seem like a waste in shields.

    Is this true?

Interesting how many people prefer Republic over democracy.
Democracies are well balanced, but I guess ther is something to to be said for unit support in a Republic.
Personally, I'd rather pay for units in exchange for faster workers and rushing via gold.
Next game I'll stick w/ a republic and see what it's like.

The republic was changed in Conquests...

          Towns support 1 unit
          Cities 3
          and metropolises 4

Unfortunately, every unit after these costs 2 gold instead of one.

Late game, when almost all cities are metropolises, in a republic, with 8 units, you would get 4 units for free and then pay 8 gold to support the other units. With a democracy, you would still pay 8 gold.

So basically, it depends on your playing strategy. If you have more than 8 units per base, the a democracy is more beneficial, while if you have under 8, a republic is better. However, the less corruption experienced in democracy might make up for it if you have less than 8 units. If the less corruption in democracy makes up for the lost gold in extra support (compared to a Republic), then you have to compare 150% worker efficiency to low war weariness. Personally, even though in real life I am appalled to it, I like doing communism better, simply because it appears to be more beneficial, at least from a gamepoint. The communal, but also low corruption, extra police, high support, and the absence of war weariness make communism a formidable government. While in real life communism has fallen and democracy has taken the lead, I have seen quite the oppostite in civ...

What about Communism vs Fascism? That would be an interesting debate...

No contest, Communism is far superior, although the AI seems to love Fascism.

new to this forum. howdy all. I take Republic, you can get it early, so i start pumping out those techs, and when i get the chance to get democracy i don't bother to spend the 8 turns to change.

Republic vs Democracy depends upon the size of your military.

If you have a very small military (say on average 1 to 2 units per city) you are probably better off running the Democracy. Corruption converted to money and beakers will make up for the trival unit upkeep costs in this case. Remember the multipilers.

And if you have a very large military (say on average 6+ per Metro, 5+ per city, 1.5+ per town) you are allow better off running a Democracy than a Republic. You'd pay 50% or less more in unit support costs, which will be made up in corruption loses - post multipiliers.

It's only when you have are close to Republic unit support limit (not too far above and not too far below) that Republic will pay more gold. But if you have too few workers for a major task, even then Democracy may be a good choice.

On the war werriousness issue, that can be largely avoided in Democracy by having the AI be the one declaring war + police stations everywhere + Womens Suffrage. The same police stations will fight corruption, which by then amounts to major savings post multipliers.

So my stategy when not playing a Religous civ on Emperor level is:

                    1. Switch to Republic as soon as economy can support it. (More dependent upon natural aquaducts than before.)

                    2. Switch to Democracy right before reseraching Steam Power.

                    3. Stay Democracy the rest of the game.

In Conquests, Communism is the best. Outside of Conquests, Republic is the best. My games these days all go Despotism - Republic - Communism.
