  • How do you like to win?

I've just finished one game with a very satisfying Domination victory: 68% of the land mass and 85% of the population. Lots of tank armies to do the trick!

Now I've started another as Egypt and I'm thinking of going for a cultural victory. Not sure how to do that but anyhow.... And I began to wonder what ways everyone else likes to win. Do you always launch the space ship, for example? Or do different things? If so, what and why?

    Domination.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

I feel best launching the spaceship - and that's how I win most often. Or I used to - haven't played an SP game in months.

        UN vote... just kidding

I like having two or three options to win at the end of the game and trying to decide whether to declare war on one of the remaining civs or launch the spaceship....

Spaceship. I'm a builder at heart. My last game I did clear away the continent though. The germans were just damn beligerant. I couldn't avoid war with them, so I relieved them of all their precious cities.

But even on a small map, I still wasn't that close to domination victory. I just don't have much interest in wars on other continents. It's a pain, and the cities are worthless.

My last game I did both a diplomatic and a space ship (I reloaded after I got the diplomatic- just wanted to do that once). I usually do space ship, even though the modern age is a pain.

Cultural Victory is just impossible. I think I could do it on Warlord, but not on Monarch. I just can't do it.

Interestingly I got a higher score for the diplomatic victory. Can anyone explain that one? I may have had a lower pop though- I didin't count them up. I was getting hit by pollution a lot- I kept reassigning my workers though. So I would think my population would be higher from the space ship victory.

So I may do diplomatic victory more in the future. It avoid the hassle of much of the modern age. A time when the game was already won.

How do I like to win?

Often. Decisively. Any way I can. Etc. Etc.

I actually like to vary win conditions. Culture is one of my favorites. I like Domination as a military victory because it feels like a short cut to Conquest. If I am big enough to to Domination, then I am big enough to wipe out everybody if so chose. What power! I don't often deliberately go for Diplomatic, but occasionally the gameplay will make that a viable option and I will jump for it. I have never played for a histograph win. One time I settled for it because everything else stalemated. I kept my people numerous and happy and my score edged out the others.

            Yes.

I mix it up. Domination prolly most often, but if I've got an incredibly productive machine going, I'll go SS just to see how fast I can get it done. I should try a few games focused on culture. UN is for sissies.

With C3C I was winning on Victory Points all the time, but that happened so early in the game that I didn't get very far up the tech tree. That became boring, so I've unchecked that option and go for Cultural or Domination victories. I find the latter most satisfying of all, even though I'm basically a builder.

I've also built the SS once (yawn!). I've never won a Diplo victory, although the AI has!

I used to prefer cultural wins, since it's kind of cruise control up through Regent, and I really wasn't worried about winning. I'll just build my empire up and keep building and having fun until it tells me I won. Then I shifted to spaceship builds, which still allowed me to wreak havoc throughout the game, and just divert a handful of cities to build parts long before the AI when it's time to end the game. Lately, I've turned off Diplo and Culture, and been triggering Domination victories, then playing the game on through total conquest.

I'm a conquest kind of guy (usually).

I always leave all the standard options on, ie Conquest, domination, culture. spaceship, diplomatic, and then take whatever win I can get. 75% of the time this is spaceship, with the occasional diplomatic and occasional domination. Cultural is next to impossible at higher levels unless you go close to domiation limit and then milk the game and spaceship option is usually available before I trigger the domination limit. Usually the wars necessary to gain domination are too time consuming for my liking so I prefer the earlier spaceship finish

                            now for an add-on question.

How do you like to lose?
