If you turn Diplomatic Victory OFF, the UN will not show up in any build queues.

You wanna talk about tough? Try to pull off a diplomatic victory in a MP game. I've won it that way once and lost that way once as well. What an unsatisfying way for the game to end.

I'm not to fussed whether the game says I won or not, so long as i can look at the state of affairs and see i've amassed the most powerful civ. Diplo just seems to be a pointless distraction.

Hmm, pretty sure I saw it being built, however I recently upgraded to C3C 1.22 and perhaps I just forgot to turn off diplomatic victory.

I have one that way before. I was extremely nice to the AI. I didn't sneak attack them and so forth, and kept them buttered up with gifts. Even so, not all of the AI voted for me!

Destroying them is sometimes more fun. But every once in a while it's nice ta just win diplo.

I don't think I quite grasped the concept the first time I won a diplo victory. I decided to go for it once I built the UN, and the vote ended in a tie, with one abstention, I believe. So I went and destroyed a couple of the civs that didn't vote for me and won the second round of elections.

The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

A while ago I played a game where I was clearly going to win the game. I had >75% of the worlds population and was no more than two turns away from a spaceship victory, when out of the blue this tiny backward civ on an isolated island managed to finally build the UN, held an election and won the game! Boy was I peeved. I turned off the diplomatic victory win for a long time after that...

It's funny, I didn't think they even had the tech to build the UN - they were way behind. They never managed to build any other other wonders. They must have been building that one wonder the whole game. They had something like three cities and a very small percentage of the worlds population( <5%). ( I think there were only three civs left in the game).

The first time I built the UN I didn't realize how it worked, so when it asked for a vote, I voted for one of the other leaders (duh) and lost the game (I had been winning).

I got caught on the wrong end of a Wonders victory when another civ built the 29th? one. I thought it was just a limit. I didn't realize the game would be over!
So I disable that and the space race victory. It seems every game I played became a space race due to the high level of tech acquisition. If you didn't launch by 1910 or so someone else would!
