  • How to increase military service?

This is something I have yet to figure out about Civ3 and I've been playing since 2001.

In the demographics chart, my military service is always close to last place. I build every improvement in every city and keep two or three defenders fortified in city at all times but my military usually stinks. They lose against weaker opponents out in the field and have the lowest military service average.

    How can I improve this?

    Thanks!

Military Service doesn't indicate an advantage at all; if your technogically superior army is failing in the field, either A) You're attacking against units on defendable terrain or B) you're having bad luck. (Or some of both.)

The Military Service figure in demographics is simply your population divided by your amount of military in some way. Like the other demographics, it's just there to be civilization sort of "eye candy"

Military Service: 10 years * # of military units / # of citizens. Military units are units with an attack and defense value, so workers, scouts and princesses don't count. Kings do. So at the start of a mass regicide game you will have a military service of 70 years because of the 7 military units *10 years divided by just your 1 citizen. 0 years if you have no army or you have just a few units, but thousands of population points.
