  • Lame quotes on the defeat & victory screens

Is it me, or are the AIs in Conquests seriously more snarky than they used to be in the victory & defeat screens?

It really hit me when I got back into Civ 3 after not playing for a long time, and I got to the defeat screen and here the game is telling me how much I suck. Thanks a lot... I know I'm out of practice and I suck, I don't need rude comments after just wasting an hour of my life.

Contrast with games like Advance Wars, which, when you lose a battle, gives you tips on how to do better, and encourages you to try again.

It was nearly as bad when I won... the lame excuses for losing quotes were as bad as anything you'd see on battle.net (and it gets pretty lame on battle.net...)

And what's with the quote "The game is, like, over..." Talk about yanking me out of the immersiveness of a historical game! These sorts of changes did not improve Civ 3, IMNSHO.

Oh, and do me a favor and please don't respond by saying "it's just a game" or that I should have a thicker skin or lighten up. After a 2 hour contest, trying hard the whole time only to be defeated, it's more than a little annoying to effectively have the developers of the game show their disrespect by taunting you. I don't remember Civ 3 doing this before, but maybe I just didn't pay as much attention. Having the alternative positive experience in other games may have opened my eyes to other possibilities.

Sorry, but your memory seems to be poor in this matter. The only change there has been to the end-game is that it tells you how much time you had the game running.

... And you are complaining about 2 whole hours?!
You must know a lot about immersion into the game. My games usually last 60-90 hours, after discounting for time away from the computer.

It's just a bit of fun. What, would you rather just skip to the surely more depressing Histographs?

One way you can learn not to lose is to go to the Strategy Forum and read up. Read everything you can get your hands on there. Read strategies. Read tips. Read question threads. Read analyses. Read AARs. They will be a tremendous help to your game.

Plus, when you win, the AIs all have to admit how much they suck (although, as an AI would, they often cover their asses in the process)

Sorry it did not go so well. They added more qips in C3C, because some people found them funny.

There have been threads to yuk it up at the silly crap they toss out win or lose and at other occasions.

I like most of the end game screens. But those quotes are just plain stupid. The first time I read them, but now I just hit the space bar or Esc.

So I can't say if they changed.

I kinda like the quotes, especially when i've managed to win, if I lose, then I just remember what it's like when they lose!
