  • Cracked C3C disc

Several months ago I cracked my C3C disc. Convinced that I would have to drop another 30 bucks on a new CD I put civ away for about three months. Then a week ago on a whim I thought, "What if it could work? What if civ just checks it for some copy protection crap and doesn't actually use it for any of the data?" To my surprise it actually worked.

Now my question for you is can I patch up from 1.15 to 1.22? Is it worth doing? When the dialog comes up to put my C3C CD in the drive does it just read the same copy protection stuff as civ reads on startup? What if it doesn't work---will I be SOL until I buy a new C3C disc? Could I back everything up to revert to 1.15 if it doesn't work? Should it burn when I--- I guess I got a bit carried away there. Well, those are all of the questions I wanted to share on THIS forum.

I appreciate any advice you can offer.

EDIT: Sigh. . . Look at the picture I have posted below. My C3C is not cracked in the warez sense it is cracked it that there is a BIG @#!%ING CRACK IN IT!!! A physical crack. Please look at the picture. Again I appreciate any help

    Check out my disc:

well we are forbidden on discussing certain unofficial "patches"

my suggestion is (hopefully you backed up your original exe files) go back to thsoe original files. Properly patch the game. And then do whatever you have to.

          Ah, now I understand "cracked".

If you want to get the disk replaced, I think that's a simple matter of contacting Atari/Firaxis. It seems you should do that, I think they only charge a replacement fee to cover shipping/handling. I'm not 100% sure of the specifics.

          Regarding your other questions.

Again... The remainder of this response edited by Ming.

Pal, about 1849 people came here claiming that their discs were broken. You should know that I actually have tried once several cd's. It's actually pretty hard to break a cd. cd's don't break by accident.

Just be honest: you have an illegal version of the game and you are looking for a no-cd patch.

My answer is: buy the game and don't come with silly excuses. And if you try anyway, please come with original ones.

            Now get lost.

I've never had a CD shatter, but my brother has. They do spin at high speeds. And these days companies are using cheaper manufacturing methods to save money. the CD's they give us are crap.

Like I said before. Replace your no-cd exe with your backup version (it's a good idea to keep these for this reason). Patch the game. And then find another No-CD patch. I cannot tell you where, you'll have to find it yourself. I use one. And I paid the full price for civ3 and both expansions. I'm just lazy, and don't like switching CD's all the time. Because I play many games in a week. This week I have been playing 4 games. Civ3, SMAC, NWN, and even a little Diablo2 last night.

I guess I shouldn't be too indignant at being called a thief since I have used illegal software before, but I actually paid for Civ3 and C3C. I don't know how I cracked the CD but the following picture speaks for itself

I guess you could say that's fake, but I don't know how to fake it---if you can I'd like to see it. You could also say it's another CD. . . I guess I can't prove that it is a C3C disc, but no matter what you say there it is: a cracked disc. Isn't that the objection anyway? That a disc cannot just crack from dropping something on it?
If you're never going to believe me suit yourself.
By the way, I used the 1.22 patch from the civ website and everything worked fine.

Glad it worked for you __C__ . The corruption problem is handled much better under 1.22

Unless a no-cd patch/hack is provided/approved by the publisher of the game, it is still illegal, EVEN IF YOU HAVE BOUGHT THE GAME. While you may not agree, it's a the law in most countries... and in the country that this site is hosted from.

This kind of discussion is not allowed on this site. So consider yourself warned... And if you bring it up again, you will be restricted.
