  • a savegame from a newbie

Hello everybody, I am a new member and this is my first post, but I lurked a lot and learned even more from you...
I had an interesting game in monarch, with a difficult map, imvho, and I wanted to submit you some savegames for your opinion.
At last I won, but I think I have done some big mistakes, and I hope to learn something from you.
Now I submit the start, so I don't give you any spoiler if you want to play, later, if you want, I will submit more.
    Thx and cheers everybody

    Welcome.

Now the start save is useful, if one has a reason to play it. IOW, if you were to show an issue you had or a point where things were bad or something.

I mean, playing the game all the way to end is a lot of time and requires motivation. What will you gain from it if someone was to play it perfectly and post a win?

We would need to know what it is we are trying to teach or learn.

I ask for a start save when someone post a game that is down the line and they have run into problems. This lets me present some styles of play that could show them how to avoid that particular issue, if I can.

Since you won, who is to say you did not play it better than anyone could?

So do you have any save or screens of points where you think you may have made a mistake?

I am not sure was clear, but I guess I am asking what the issues are. Something like not getting the tech lead or not getting any industrial wonders or anything like that?

Thx vmxa1, I posted the first savegame because it is however a very interesting and challenging map, arid and full of mountains, you need to destroy one civ to get fresh water, and, more, it's continents and you start on the worse continent...
My biggest mistake, I think, has been to avoid attacking the last powerful civ (India) of my continent before GW power expired, so I had to resist to three attacks with war elephants.
I had to wait till bombers to get rid of them.
And immediatly after came another problem...
The other continent was totally owned by Incas, who had also a small tech lead.
I could not go for space race or points, because I was behind in tech, so the only hope to win was to invade and destroy with a smaller army...
Not an easy task at all!
      Some more mistakes...
I waited too much to make a water road to my core cities
I built FP in a 2shields city (the others lost for corruption), it was an excellent position, but I had to wait too much to get the effects
When Pachacuti extorted me Scientific Method I gave it, so he has beaten me for 1 turn in the ToE race (I did not realize that his navy was very weak, and so he wasn't a true menace)
Now I look to my savegames to see if there is some interesting situation.
      Thx again
      Mariola

Sounds like you had fun. It is hard to say about most of it, the only one I would say is clear cut, is the Sci Meth.

I would rather fight than give that up. The AI is not good at invading and if you have a strong work force any bombardments can be fixed right away.

Inter contientential invasions are hard for humans as well. If you can muster up 4 or more armies, it will make it easier.

If you have one or two strong core cities, you should be able to use prebuilds and beat the AI to any wonder, If you have more or less the same amount of land, you should be able to out research the AI at Emp or Demi.

If you are behind a bit at the point where you get the parity in land, then steal the tech to catch up. I have only used this tactic at Sid, but it should work.

Anyway it sounds like you have a good handle on things, it is easy to get lazy and make mistakes in a game, most of us do it.

I had great fun, vmxa1, it has been very challenging, and the celtics are quite powerful.
            Here are my savegames:
            270 b.c., before french war;
            110 d.c, after french war
            - an arabian war without savegames -
at this point I supposed that india was too far from my core and too large, and I did not had enough units to attack it, very likely a mistake, so...
1190 indians prepare the first strike against me, targeting Reims (later I discovered there was coal)...
            to be continued...
(can I post more saves? it seems I can post only one per reply, and they are nine...)

Just make a post for each with a simple note. You maybe able to zip a few into one file and stay inside the limit.

Otherwise make them all in one zip and upload it. Then link to the upload.

I got and error loading it, so I am guessing this is not patched to 1.22.

I will try another time with zip, never tried before, I need to test.
I feared to spam, I am glad there is no problem, so I go on.
                  now 110 d.c.

Then the saves will not work for those with 1.22 appiled. You might want to get the current patch as many here will have at least 1.15 or later.

The game will play a bit different as well.
