  • How to end the perpetual belligerancy

I think we've all been there. Decades or Centuries of perpetual warfare, betrayals, preemptive attacks, entangling alliances, and betrayals of alliance partners end up putting everyone on edge. Every civ's reputation turns to 0 and wars get started on the drop of a hat. Now I'm sick of fighting. I've made my conquests and want to sit in peace and develop them. Furthermore, I want to repair trade between my civ and oversee's partners. Is there any secret to keeping everything from errupting into war again? How can I repair my reputation? Is it even possible?

If by your reputation you mean a per-turn deal was broken, there is no way to recover it. (Which really sucks, since it isn't always your fault; it can result from someone else cutting the trade route regardless of your intentions. )

If you mean your relations with other AIs, try trading more with them if you can. You could also try sending them a gift occassionally if you really want to be friendly.

AFAIK, there's no way to repair your rep. The best thing to do is pull your horns in, become isolationist with respect to treaties and always make sure you have a per turn good to offer (even if only gold) when you trade.

I can't imagine being sick of fighting, though.

I for one am used to being picked on despite my best efforts. I now plan for this from the beginning so I'm ready for the endless cycle of war.

Yeah this is what I tend to do. Unfortunately it can leave one diplomatcially isolated if you get into a war. I guess the best strategy in general is to at least dominate, if not conquer, your home continent, making it harder for an enemy to invade substantially.

You don't have to do that, but you cannot let them get way behind in tech. So sell or gift them stuff and kep them fairly close to the rest, if they cannot do it on their own.

Well, actually becoming isolationist isn´t so bad thing.
Usually when I start getting more territories and tech than all other civs, I stop talking to them and concentrate on technology & cultural advancing.
Now, the only problem is that when on the modern era you finally decide to wipe out another civ (generally you have mech infantry and they are still building knights), that war fastly transforms in a war were you alone battle every other nation in the world, but it can sometimes be won, if you´re well prepared, at a high cost.

SO far the advantages and disadvantages of beign isolationist... Better rush for the spaceship, war is not the way.

on one of my first games, after a whole lot of fighting where everyone was basically everyone, i thought i could get out of it by signing MPP's with everyone. well, that lasted a good 2 turns till i was back at war with almost all of them and was the most hated person in the world.
