In another life I worked on the prototype for that system. It hurts to think how long ago that was. The name was "Aegis" and it was defintely named after the mythological shield used by Perseus to kill Medusa. The insignia was the shield with the snake-headed lady on it. It was not an acronym and was not in all caps when we worked on it. The military usage may have changed since, but that is how it started. Back then, it was just a wierd but promising idea with radars and missiles being tested on an ancient WW2 leftover ship. The upper level types may have had big dreams about it, but us worker drones never expected it to be such a crucial naval warfare technology. Just goes to show that those in the middle of history cannot easily see what they are part of. I wonder if I should consider myself as part of a real life parallel to the tech tree. Interesting. Especially since I have yet to build an Aegis Cruiser in the game. I claim that is because I have never had use for the unit, but I wonder if it has some other avoidance reasons. It wasn't my most enjoyable employment. I never thought of this connection before. I'm glad I didn't help invent Calvary. That is my favorite unit.

As for Radar Towers. I use them to consume workers when they are done railroading my empire and I have added what I can to city populations. I only use native workers for Radar Towers since part of what I am trying to do at that time is usually getting some of my budget back so I can spend it on upgrades and improvements. I don't even defend the towers. If the AI detours to the tower, then units in the nearby city have a chance to reach out and pounce. Empty radar towers as bait!!
    If you aren't confused,
    You don't understand.
