Professionally, this bugs me about Civ3.

    although weather patterns are a bit more complicated from that. In the west u.s. you will find higher elevations get more rain. Although sometimes you will find the east side of mountains dry (death valley for example), but that is mostly because they are of lower elevation. Where I live- the west side of mountains are also dry . I live on the west side of the spring mountains (Las Vegas). My city only got it's spanish name because of natural springs. Not because of rainfall.

    Then you go to the great plains. They are east of the rockies, yet get some rainfall. This is altered sometimes by moisture drawn up from the gulf of mexico.

      Oh sure - the weather system is one of the more complex things science can even scratch the surface of understanding! Whole computer programs only do an extremely approximate job with modelling that.

      But a few such ideas (howver simplified and generalised) would always be nice to include.
