  • woot - AI builds armies!

Dunno if some of you already figured this out, but i got my AI to build armies! And no, i'm not talking about giving them one for free every few turns.

Key is simple: set Cost to 0 and enable every building possible to 'allow' them to be built (this includes every wonder). While this is not necessary, it increases the chance that the AI will build them. The AI will only build them if they have nothing better to do, and if you only enable it with the palace, for example, it won't build one to often, because the city is often busy building a wonder or something. But by setting the cost to 0, the AI does first build armies before seomthing else.

Best part is they even use it in the field - even if its their only army! I had India, which had only 5 cities (read max 1 army), drop off a army loaded with 2 war elephants on my main land during a war.

Interesting....did they drop it off with a Caravel because Galleons weren't available at the time? If so, it's a scary display of possible AI intelligence, or perhaps just a coincidence

it was dropped off in a caravel. I also limited armies to only 2 inf (3 when ya got the pentagon). But armies in the field are no rarity in my game. I'm currently playing a game with 9 other civs on a small map + continents. Every nation i had a war with yielded armies in an offensive fashion.

Best to try it out yourself. But its cool

oh, and i wouldn't call it "intelligent", cause it quickly got wasted by my chinese "rider" army.

Hopefully the Civ IV AI will be more intelligent.

We can but hope that the CivIV AI will be intelligent and that one day the world will be a better place.

Having said that, I got a timely reminder on the weekend that our expectations are probably unreasonably high. I was with a buddy who originally introduced me to CivII - he has played it for years -which led to me getting into CivIII. He's now playing PTW and I sat watching him at Warlord level trying to resist the urge to question every move he made and suggest a better idea!

Bring him to the AU forum and/or the strategy forum and soon he will be playing at Emperor level

I'm trying, but it seems as though he has somewhat of a life
