Get this...in my last game as the koreans i got six, yes you read that correctly SIX scientific leaders. I was just wondering if anyone has ever gotten more than that. Usually I never get more than 1 or 2, even with scientific civs. It was on monarch, and needless to say I cruised to an easy cultural victory in 1922. I could have crushed the remaining civs long before but i thought it was fitting to win culturally as I rushed great wonders with all 6 leaders. If anyone thinks I'm full of it I can post the save a turn before victory, then you can watch the little movie thing and count them. Im at work now, but if anyone wants to see proof of this ridiculousness let me know.

I never got any scientific great leader.
I'm mostly playing demi-god / deity level, thus I'm surely not oftenly the first to discover the techs. But I still oftenly am, for sure late in the game (and very early)

But never got any of them. It starts to suck.

Thus, to answer your question: No, I never got more than 6 SGL in a game. *sob*

I once got 2 in one turn That was pretty awesome.

Never got more than 2 in the course of a game though.

Is there any formula to calculate the change of a GL appearing?

Yeah, when you are the first to discover a tech, you get a 3% change of generating a SGL, unless you've got a scientific civ, then the odds are 5%.

I've surely discovered at least 40 techs since I started playing c3c as first. Thus: the odds surely appear to be against me.....

The changes of NOT getting a SGL after researching 40 techs first as a non-scientific civ is close to 30%

Which means it will happen to a lot of people...

I've had three in one game, but most games I see zero.

Playing only demi god and deity, never seen one.

In my previous demi game I was first to discover at least 10 techs and I still didn't get one. I decided to switch them off for future games.

I think the most I ever got in one game was 4. Which was absurd, of course.

The key is the timing, though. I'll take 1 nice and early for the Pyramids over 2 or 3 later in the game.

3 and 5% are rather low numbers....

If you are first to every tech through all 4 ages(80-90 techs) you still got some 8% change of not getting any SGLs.

You need 23 techs to reach 50% probability of a SGL for non-scientific civs, 14 for scientific civs.

                          You sure got that right.

I just got my first Ultra-early SGL. Rushed the Pyramids in 2150-odd BC. Expansion went through the roof, and meant I could secure the Colossus and then Mausoleum in the high-trade Colossus city to keep that pop growing..

Charlie - when did you get your first SGL or two in that game?

I got 2 in the Mesopotamia conquest...in a regular game not much, but in that conquest it'll win the game, practically.

I actually can't remember the last time I had an SGL, it has been that long.

Makes me think about trying a Science civ, but it probably would not help.
