  • Slow game down?

Hi ive notice an irritating thing about the game.

The tec and the years go way to fast cos have u noticed that when u start a war having about lets say 10-15 turns with the units that u have then u need to upgrade, to match the enemy units.

Why cant the whole game go slower, is there any way to slow the tec down and years, I was told how to alter civ2 call to power and I increased the tec advances by 50%.
(Example 1000 was research points to get now 1500 which gives you about 7 turns extra until the new tec.

Can this game be altered ive looked but no luck?

I think you can simply go to the editor and then set the reseach cost at a higher level for each tech.

You can also play on maps with lots of water to slow down the contacts and that helps keep research pace down.

Do as little trading of techs as you can get away with and try to keep the AI at war with each other. Gold used fro troops is not used for reseatch.

That would take a long while to micromanage.

What I used to do with CtP is bottleneck techs. Make key techs cost an extortionate amount.

You could for example make Gunpowder five times as expensive. That would allow pre-musketeer units to stick around for a lot longer.

Another quicker method would be to go to the government heading in the editor and then set the maximum research rate to less than 100%

          For instance
          Despotism 40%
          Monarchy 50%
          Republic 60%
          And so on.

Playing a huge map adjusts the real cost of each tech upward, as well.

The result of that is to slow down the earlier techs, the later techs get researched at the same-ish rate.

Adjusting each tech manually sounds like a *real* Pain-in-the-ass, you are probably better off modifying the map-size modifier.

Also, if you just want to delay entering a new era, making some of the optional techs that are usually bypassed required can help.
