  • what's different of a winning elite unit?

in the combats, if an elite unit wins, it has chance to create an army leader, and for itself, CivIII gives me a popup screen to give the unit a name. I normally leave whatever the default the name is and forget about this unit.

my question is, beside giving us an army leader, this bearing-a-new-name unit has any different ability to the normal unit? can it heal the other units around it or increase offensive or deffensive power of the other units or itself?

Come on now, there a very special moment here, put your name in the dialog box!! Now, doesn't that feel better?

Now of course this has got to be a magickal unit now and if you lose it just hit the 'revolution' button to simulate the tradegy of your untimely death.

No, it is not different from others of it is type, except it can no longer create another leader.

I rename the unit to denote the number of leader this was in the game for me. (acher1)

You do know that the leader can be used to rush small wonders or create an army, right?

Once the unit gets upgraded, it will be a vet and can get another promotion and be eligible to generate a leader again.

So the same unit can produce more than one leader if upgraded? Has anyone had a single unit produce 2+ leaders?

          Thanks guys for clarifying this.

Actually I think to name an army could be a better idea to just name a winning unit. For example, how does this sound: Tank Division No.7

Note that the name of an Elite* unit will stick around even if it's upgraded. If you leave the old name, you can get funny results like a Cavalry unit called "Knight"

Yeh, I nearly reported my renamed elite "Horseman" as a bug when I upgraded him to a Knight and later found him running around under the old name.....until I plugged my brain in.

I used a scheme like Horsemen3, then Horse3_Knight7, then Horse3_Knight7_Calv11, but shorten it to H3_K7_Calv11.

Just last game I had a unit produce a 2nd leader after it was upgraded. I used to number my leader-producers, but now I just add "Guards" to their name and number the armies (e.g., 1st Army).

If you don't want to change the name, click "x" on the dialogue box. That should nullify the change, where clicking "o" will actually rename, for instance, your Knight unit as Knight, thus causing it to still be Knight when it's been upgraded.
