I have noticed that once or twice when I am really hurting a civ by been at war with them when i requested a piece treaty I could select one of there workers to become mind can the same be done with other units like tanks and ships etc.????

Nope. No military unit trading in CivIII. If you want to try it, go to the Civ 4 List link in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

and you can only get the workers when the yin the AI capital and vice versa for if you want to give Workers
