Why won't third party scenarios work in Conquests?

Right now I'm trying to get some of the scenarios I downloaded (off Aptylon specifically) to work. For whatever reason when I try to play them via Conquests during the setup they freeze up. The game stops responding and stops loading. Does anyone know why?

PS: My computer should run it and I have the latest versions of the game.

Which scenarios?

Are they for Conquests or were they made for PTW or Vanilla? (PTW and vanilla scenario files are upwards-compatible with Conquests, but one possibility that comes to mind is they may be lacking some additional support files now required.)

The Age of Imperialism and Cold War one specifically.

I haven't seen the Cold War scenario, but I have tried the Age Of Imperialism. You do know it is set on a huge map and that you have to give it time to load? I think the author mentioned something like 30 minutes on a 1.8GHz processor.
