actually i think i am the first one on these forums to coin the phrase "wonder dependancy, or WD for short
it is actually something i have been against since my civ 1 days. and everyone i play with i tell them to try to play without wonders, and you would be surprised to see how their skills have improved since. The Wizard of AAHZ

mmm... sweet victory. 1959- English island city falls to my marines.
Ripped through Russians and English, French had saltpeter so I had to bring in some extra calvary. Russians and English had towns on islands so I had to wait to get marines.
Final score- 503, Ceasar the FoolishI changed my signature

Don't worry, it soon ramps up
I wouldn't recommend such a HUGE rise as the others are, but certainly yes - a few wins at ANY level pretty much qualifies you to step up.
Then again, it probably accounts for why I'm still and Monarch - I daren't step up even after some outrageous winsIt's all my territory really, they just squat on it...!

Of course, you COULD just employ my school of thought on wonders. That is, don't - spend it on military and claim everything for yourself anyway
Seriously though, with the AI's odds being what they are on any half-decent difficulty, and it being even worse on the 16-player huge maps I like... - consider ignoring wonders, and choosing a method that'll solve whatever you wanted the wonder for, almost every timeIt's all my territory really, they just squat on it...!

Bombers in 1300?
My second full epic game, sing my favourite map, the small world map that comes with the game. I play the Hiittes and was lucky to start in australia, which is well protected.
It's a little over the year 1300 AC and already have access to building fighters, bombers, cruisers etc. It really is fun!!!! I think I'll conquer the world.
My fist game I lost badly, playing on the same map with the Celt, which started off in Siberia; the Chinese wiped me out.
reading a lot of the tutorials and the manual has helped me a lot to progress. I am still playing Chieftain level.
THIS GAME IS JUST TOO "ONE MORE TURN" ADDICTIVE!!!

Welcome aboard, Gamecube64!!
Heck, as noted in the Amazon reviews thread, you are a step ahead just by having found 'poly. The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

Be patient. Chieftain level is only a pain until you find the AI's quirks, and then suddenly it's not as intelligent as it first seemed
(It used to bother me how an AI with as many troops as me knew enough to keep me out, even on chieftain )It's all my territory really, they just squat on it...!
