You might notice that it can happen if you flip to the foreign advisor and trade it during the opening turn sequence. IOW, right at the time that the 'we have discovered' screen shows up you go trading before exiting that.

Whereas, if it happened later in the turn, after the opening sequence is completely finished, I would be very surprised.

      that's when it happened, notyoueither.
I went from the sciense screen immediately into the F4 screen, and traded it.

I could only trade it to the first nation. After that, they all got the tech already.

After I traded it, I went back to the F6 screen to pick the tech to research next. When I had picked one and closed the screen, immediately a new 'you have discovered' screen popped up. Because I was the first on philosophy.

That's been there for a long time. It may have been 'fixed' at some point, but I can't recall.

The solution is to not trade tech at that point. Wait for your turn to begin.

NYE is right - I've definitely had that happen before. When you are advised that you have researched the tech, you can flip from the science screen into the foreign advisor screen and trade the tech immediately, but only once....then it goes back to finishing the sequence before it's truly your "manual' turn, during which time the AI has the opportunity to trade it around. Not sure if this should or shouldn't happen - probably shouldn't since all the AI's should have finished their turn by then - but it does.

Solution is to never trade the tech as soon as you are advised you have it. Wait until it's really your turn. Patience is a virtue!

But there is a change to get the most expensive free tech at that time.

If you're talking about the Philosophy free tech, yes you can pick your free tech at that time as long as you're first to Philosophy. But what we're talking about is trading the tech around as soon as you've discovered it, only to find that the AI immediately trades it before you get to trade it so a second AI.

Or am I missing something here?

This is not really a bug, but rather a consequence of how the game works: The human moves first, then the AI moves, then the human has his build phase, then the AI has its build phase.

Players can trade in their build phase or in their movement phase. If you trade in your build phase, the AI gets to trade during its build phase before you get to trade again in your movement phase.

alexman, what you say is not the case.
                  it's more like:

                  --------start of my build phase----------
                  I get philosophy
I am the first one, since I get the free tech
I give philosophy to, say, the germans
I immediately talk to the french.
                  they already have philosophy.
------- end of my build phase---------

I believe both Alex and NYE are right on this issue. I'd hold off trading until your move phase and see what happens.

CyberShy I don't think that contradicts alexmans point. You need to wait to trade tech until you have control of the map.

The phase where get access to finished builds is not enough.

yeah, I'll do that from now on.
                        that's clear

                        thanks!

I dont think u r missing. U are right, if we are not talking about philo, dont trade the tech. But, if we got philo (and the first to discover it), we may trade it so that we could get the most expensive free tech. Nice feature

I've traded new techs from "what's the big picture" a few times since installing the 1.22 patch and I've not yet seen this.

No one has mentioned the Great Library yet. I know philosophy is a a bit early for it but it'd be useful to rule it out even if more than 1 civ got the tech.

It brings another issue about "turn based." When we sell a tech to a civ in our turn, the tech price should not be cheaper when we sell to other civ on the same turn. It would be cheaper after our turn.
