Sounds like you are off to a good start. One thing is I dislike making settlers or workers during a GA. That means citizens that were working will be lost and the extra shields with them.

You want mines, not cities during a GA, then expand more, especially since you know you have the island.

Agree. New York would build its last settler. And I've swicthed Chicago to barrack. Miami, gee, it would take long to build any good improvment. So, I think I would let it build worker/warrior

America's greatest trait is that you needn't ever get into a situation where you need to 'squander' your GA due to the need to use a particular unit - try getting by in a war without Swordsmen if you are the Romans or Persians, without Horsemen if you are the Iroqs, without Knights if you are the Arabs....

You have access to every normal unit that is in the game without risking a GA. Thus you can plan it with Wonders or for waiting until you get your UU (not really recommended as it's so late). OF course this makes the Americans more of a liability on higher levels, where, if you get your GA with the F16 it will not help much, and getting the right wonders may not be possible.

Getting better. But the tech progress was very slow . At 290AD, and looks like I'm the only one who got middle ages (mayan which I havent find out where they were, but able to finish hangging garden, most likely would be 2nd). The good things were:
          1. I got 3RD SGL!! . And it was about time, I would rush SunTzu (although I'm not sure, if this is the right choice or not, since not many city would get benefit of it).
          2. I got HORSE. I was wrong, the prev. post, I just didnt get the tech yet at that time(I finally exchanged Whell+60Gold with Math-Carthage, and Horse+250Gold with Polymor-franch).
          3. I finished GLib (its no use also, but it has good culture ).
          4. I finished Temple of Artemis.
          5. I finished Mouseoum of Mousollo
          6. I had war with Cart and destroyed his 2 cities which were located on my rightest island, and when their galleys came, I just offered peace. I need to build 2 more cities and hookup the only iron on the island. Carthage would always be furios for the rest of the game.

          My plant would be :
          1. Switch to monarchy.
          2. There was an unoccupied island (south of France's island) that I would occupy (I would send arround 3 settlers, 3 warriors, and 2 workers).
          3. Destroying Carthage and took over their city which have dyes, with swordsmand, horseman and catapults.
          4. Find the good location for my FP.
          5. Praying to get another SGL (Man never feels enough), this time for my FP or

Democracy Games are in two forms now. The current most popular form is a Play By Email game of Civ3 or SMAX where all the players are teams rather than single players. The teams establish their own internal rules and tend to have a few elected officials who create orders on how to move units etc and one-three people who actually play the turns. There can be lots of fun to be had in interactions between the teams with negotiations or roleplaying.

The original, and now less commonly seen form of the Democracy Game was a single player game vs AI opponents. The Civ3 game is still going.

binyo66 sounds good. Research goes slow on lower levels as the AI does not help much after the huts are popped.

Why go to Monarchy? Republic is better and you do not want to switch gov more than once.

Well, because I didnt research Republic yet. The most expensive tech was monarch which I choose as the free tech. The random gave me archipelago. Only carthage and egypt were on the same island. Me and Japan were also on the same island (but I destroyed it earlier). So, other civs were very backward. After I destroyed carthage I just quit the game, too easier and I was the one got Great Light House wonder. I should make it pangea, make it more difficult.
