Grid overlay modification

Does anyone know of a mod that changes the default grid overaly graphic? I like using the grid, but it's too intruding. I'm hoping to find one that is subtle; that isn't as dominating as the default grid.

Instructions on how to make the changes will suffice as well. I searched the forums but couldn't find anything like this.

I'm not absolute sure, but I think this is hardcoded and we can't change it.
