  • Charting Corruption?

I've gotten lost among all the beta patches, can anyone solve this riddle:

How does 1.12 corruption compare with the current version's (1.15?) when it comes to the AI? Better or worse for it?

In 1.12, I built my FP a few cities away from the Palace (8-10th rank) and was surprised corruption there was about 50%. I'm getting better results than unpatched, but I'm wondering how the AIs are doing with their FPs. Playing Germany on Emperor, I was hanging with the AIs until I got my bonus tech for the industrial age. Now it's just a matter of completing a conquest before the first Panzer rolls off the line.

None of the other surviving tribes are scientific, although Russia did get medicine and trade it before I wiped them out, but I've been in monarchy all the way and didn't get Copernicus's O. Is the 1.12 corruption model holding them back?

No it's not the corruption model. You're just too good.

If anything, the AI benefits from the new corruption model compared to prior versions (1.12 is very similar to 1.15), because they usually build their FP close to their Palace anyway.

I wasn't sure because its my first full epic game since C3C came out and Emperor felt easier then PTW. Must be I've just been browsing the strategy forum more lately. :-)

I tried tracking down the various threads on corruption changes (this place could use a full time librarian, that search engine isn't much help ;-), but it took a while just to find your main C3C corruption thread. A quote from Jesse in a patch thread:
PLEASE NOTE: v1.13 has an altered corruption calculation so dont be surprised if it feels very different.
Was this dropped for the 1.15 release?

I'm also concerned about this because people in PBEM games are using three different versions now (1.12, 1.15, and unpatched). I think the next patch is supposed to clear all this up and remove backward compatability, but for now, I'm wondering what the impact could be on these games. Were all the modifications done to the FP's function, or did it involve the base calculation and improvements?

1.12 to 1.15 have essentially the same model, which is different from Vanilla/PTW. The FP doesn't create new city ranks, but still affects distance corruption. Also, there is a different OCN modifier (Nopt in Alexman's stuff) to compensate, and the extent of this does vary between the recent patches. Just read Alexman's 1.15 thread, not the earlier ones to get the right numbers.

You mean the 'everything about corruption' one in the conquests forum (I think this should be in the "must read" thread instead of the PtW one)? I'm not asking about the differences between C3C and Vanilla/PTW, but differences between the various C3C patches. Was Jesse overstating the case about the post-1.12 changes in the above quote?

If you're saying it was just the OCN calc that changed, do we know exactly what the changed figures were?

I just figured out I was searching all of Poly instead of just the forums, maybe I can get better results this time...

Yeah the OCN changes between 1.12 and 1.15. Don't try and work out what went on from Jesse's quotes, since they weren't really sure if it was a bug initially or a new model. They decided on a new model (FP gives no new city ranks), but 1.12 didn't give the OCN change on the scale they had suggested.

Just check out the 1.15 thread.
