  • Gifting cities and culture

I'm interested in finding out if anyone knows if the following is possible.

If I give a city to another player with the Religious trait and they build Temples and give the city back to me will the temples generate culture for me?

This sort of building would be a boon for many civs. A sci civ could build libraries and then give the city back. Commecial civs could build banks and give the city back.

Do these buildings maintain their effectiveness?

    Inquiring minds want to know!

Any building that produces culture (except wonders*) is destroyed when a city changes possesion. So, to answer your question, no.

    * Wonders that are captured no longer produce any culture, but their effects remain.

I believe a random number of non-culture buildings are trashed too when a city is taken - this may be just when conquered, or they may stay when gifted.

If you re-conquer a city with wonders you built, do the wonders produce culture for you again?

        Ex. You are Romans..
        1150 BC Veii founded.
30 BC Veii builds Pyramids. (pyramids produce culture)
150 AD Veii captured by Scandinavians. (pyramids produce no culture)
350 AD Veii captured by Romans.

Would the Pyramids produce culture for the Romans after all of this?

Also the culture would be at the same level as when you lost/gifted it away.

I've looked at the cultural value of wonders built in cities I've captured from the enemy. When I look at them in the cultural Advisor screen they are generating culture for me. If I look at the wonder in the city screen there is no symbol to indicate culture is being generated.

This would not work for scientific and religious civs for the reason stated above (culture).

It would not work for commerical civs because they don't get cheaper buildings.

However, it would work for Militaristic, Seafaring, and Agricultural civs, as long as you don't mind having cultural buildings destroyed.

Yeah. I spaced on that one.

Are cultural buildings destroyed when a city is gifted? Does it happen 100% of the time? If not, what percentage are destroyed?

Like I said, All building that produce culture are destroyed. Wonders still work, but they don't produce culture.

                        Donegal is right.

I'm assuming your not talking about SP? Couldn't imagine the AI giving a city to a human player.

They will give you a city or two, if you punish them.

No he is not. Like I said before, I captured a wonder (Sun Tzu's) and it is generating culture for me.

If you got a save of this you should send it to firaxis. It shouldn't produce culture for you, so it's a bug. And I've never seen a captured wonder actually produce culture, but that doesn't mean it never does. But it never should.
